3 Minute Heroes

Friction Arts have teamed up with groups across Birmingham to form a collection of digital art inspired by personal heroes. The untangling of memory, an exploration of local fable, a torch which illuminates the unrecognised. A platform to raise up the hidden heroes to sculpt and define their stories.
Over the last month the group of artists have been working with Inclusion Connect, Blue River, Progressive Pathway Club, Naseby Girls Group, IWIC and people from the Highgate area. We are working with a vast range of ages and nationalities including a special needs youth group, an elderly Afro-Caribbean women’s group and a group of new arrivals working with translators.
As part of Say Hello, Hello Digitals' public participatory programme, the artists will be helping the participants to create a number of 3 minute digital shorts, this work will enter every realm of creativity and expression to bring intimate and inspiring snapshots of love and respect to a global community .

Showcased via the internet on www.3minuteheroes.org, we launch the celebration on April 16th, 2-6pm at The Edge, 79-81 Cheapside, B12 OQH.
The launch will include interactive installations, sound and video work, sculpture, tea and talks with artists and participants and a chance to see the work alongside the people who inspired it. The exhibits will include animations, film and spoken and written stories about the participant’s heroes, housed in environments created by Friction’s internationally acclaimed team of artists – including an indoor ‘canal tunnel’!
So come down with your own tales of innocence and experience and share with us your 3 minute hero.

An event we’re going to be at this Sunday - come and design a t-shirt or bag with us, and take one away for free!

This event will also help to raise awareness of the forthcoming shift from this blog to the shiny new blog over on the filter website.  Exciting!

Some lovely shots taken by a BIAD student who is over in NYC!

Flatiron Building.

Yep, it’s pretty flat! One day we thought it would be a good idea to walk from the Staten Island Ferry to our temporary home (YMCA Upper Westside.. took us hours) ticking off all the touristy places off our imaginary ticklist.

More photos to follow later this afternoon YAY for you..!

An afternoon with Grand Union

In the afternoon we then made a visit to Grand Union and spent time with artists Manu Luksch and Mukul Patel who talked to us in detail about their project Kayak Libre.

Their project is one in a series of open-residences and workshops. Please see http://www.grand-union.org.uk/ for more information about this programme.
